Between the lines – Communicating across differences
Workshop for PhD Students, Tuesday, 9th Dezember 2025 14:00-17:00
Erwin Schrödinger Lecture Hall, ESI, Boltzmanngasse 9, 1090 Vienna
How can we connect with people who are different from us?
This interactive workshop explores the power of communication in different situations: what we say, what we show, and what we express unconsciously. Together, we will examine unconscious biases and how our hidden assumptions about gender, culture and identity influence our interactions.
Using playful methods from improvisational theater, we explore diversity, empathy, and awareness in action. We practice how to listen, respond, and remain authentic, even in tricky small talk situations. And yes, laughter is part of the process! Because when we play, we learn to listen, respond, and build genuine connections beyond stereotypes.
Through playful exercises and reflection, participants can gain insight into how they can communicate with more awareness, empathy, and openness.
