A symposium celebrating 60 years of aerosol measurements at the rooftop of the Physics Building, 45 years of Regina Hitzenberger in aerosol science, and the opening of the new Aerosol Observatory at the University of Vienna.
Atmospheric aerosol measurements have been performed at the top of the Physics Building at the University of Vienna for 60 years. The Rooftop Laboratory was used by Othmar Preining's Aerosol Group since 1963/1964, and later intensively by Regina Hitzenberger and her group. Regina Hitzenberger has decades of expertise in aerosol research with focus on optical aerosol properties, carbonaceous particles, cloud condensation and ice nuclei and measurement method development. She acted as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physics between 2006 and 2011, headed the Aerosol Group from 2012 until 2015, and was Vice Rector of Infrastructure of the University of Vienna between 2015 and 2022. The symposium celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Rooftop Laboratory, 45 years of Regina Hitzenberger in aerosol research, and the opening of the newly renovated and remodeled Aerosol Observatory that will serve as a National Facility for aerosol in-situ within the pan-European research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosols, Clouds, and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure).
