The FWF-Doktoratskolleg “Particles and Interactions” concludes

25.10.2023

After nine very successful and lively years, the FWF-Doktoratskolleg “Particles and Interactions” (DKPI) has ended its activity. This initiative combined the expertise from researchers in elementary particles and hadronic matter from the University of Vienna, TU Wien, ÖAW’s HEPHY and SMI. Since March 2014, there have been 17 doctoral students working at the Faculty of Physics which were supported by the DKPI.

The DK-PI has been a platform for excellent young scientists who are interested in fundamental questions on the nature and dynamics of matter at the shortest distances and in our universe. It allowed them to carry out their doctoral studies under optimal conditions, working together with a variety of experts from different institutions.
The combined skills and expertise within the DK-PI provided the ground for highly skilled doctoral research work combined with a thorough understanding of all aspects of modern elementary particle physics research. In this environment, students acquired the knowledge and skills needed to become a competitive participant in the international particle physics research community and to start their own successful career. Some of the alumni have continued their work in renowned institutions such as CERN and Harvard.
The program's end was celebrated on September 28 and 29 in a Final Event in the TU Wien's Kuppelsaal, with guest talks by distinguished scientists. The event was an opportunity for alumni and current members of the DKPI to say goodbye to this excellent initiative.
