Teaching Awards 2025 Ceremony at the Faculty’s Summer Party

04.07.2025

The Teaching Awards ceremony was the highlight of a festive evening where faculty members and students came together to celebrate the end of the semester.

The UNIVIE Teaching Awards are presented at the faculties of the University of Vienna. They highlight dedication to teaching and honour outstanding teaching achievements. At the Faculty of Physics, two prizes were announced, with a thematic focus on "Learning by doing". Two courses were selected from sixteen submissions by a jury of teachers and students:

  • Theoretische Physik I für das Unterrichtsfach Physik, taught by Christos Likos and Marianne Korner, assisted by tutor Melisa Cirak. In this lecture, learning by doing is implemented through successful team teaching between subject didactics and subject science. The concept, based on the Model of Educational Reconstruction and supplemented by Professional Learning Groups, self-assessments, bonus tasks, and GeoGebra simulations, promotes active and profession-oriented learning.
  • STEOP 1: Experimentalphysik I: Klassische Mechanik und Thermodynamik taught by Jürgen Klepp, Dieter Süss, Wilfried Schranz, Markus Mezger, Viktor Soprunyuk, and Christian Rentenberger, supported by tutors Daniel Manuel Erwin Casero, Janine Jochum, and Sophie Zeilinger. Here, learning by doing is successfully implemented through peer mentoring, guided group work, individual feedback, and online tests. This intensive support in the first semester motivates students and promotes independent learning right from the start.

The 2025 summer party not only provided a stage for honouring excellence in teaching, but also an opportunity for colleagues from all teams and research groups to get together and chat.
