17 May - Opening of the exhibition "The Temporal Forest"

15.05.2024

With their video installation 'The Temporal Forest' the science-arts project SEEC Photography participates in the celebrations of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024.

Can our perspective of time change the way we behave towards our surroundings? What if we were to live hundreds of years like a tree? Or just one of the nanoseconds that are crucial for photosynthesis? Can we use cameras to visualize these timescales?

The Temporal Forest combines the fastest and the slowest photographic techniques to date to open up new perspectives on the environment and to think beyond the traditional human horizon of time. The team behind the Temporal Forest consists of the artists Enar de Dios Rodriguez and Jonathan Keats, as well as the physicists Philipp Haslinger (TU Wien) and Thomas Juffmann (University of Vienna).

About SEEC Photography:
SEEC investigates how light moves across a subject. This happens at the speed of light and within a few nanoseconds (1 nanosecond = 0.000000001 seconds). Light scattered from objects closer to the camera will be imaged earlier than those further away. Using modern technology we can literally watch light (photo-) in the process of writing (-graphy) an image.
