After a general introduction about the up-to-date Standard Model (SM) prediction for the muon g-2 and its comparison against experimental measurements, I will focus on one particularly challenging part of the SM calculation, namely hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) scattering.
I will review the essential aspects of an established dispersive approach to HLbL as well as point out difficulties in this framework, especially related to the inclusion of higher-spin intermediate states.
I will then introduce a novel dispersive formalism designed to overcome these issues, present its general features and show our first results towards a complete calculation of HLbL in this approach.
