The asymptotic safety paradigm is a promising contender to provide us with an improved understanding of the fundamental building blocks of nature. In this talk, I will review how asymptotic safety is based on a symmetry principle that may provide us with a predictive quantum field theory of gravity and matter.
I will highlight the most pressing open questions of the approach, most importantly the link between theory and observations.
