Forum “Learning and Researching Physics in the Age of AI”

Are we entering the era of the cyborg physicist, where humans and AI collaborate so closely that they form a new kind of researcher? How is artificial intelligence transforming the way physics is learned, taught, and conducted? And what are the opportunities, as well as the limits, of AI-powered tools in research and education?
These and many other questions will be explored by three experts from the Faculty of Physics. In the Forum format, each speaker will give a 10-minute presentation, after which the discussion will be opened to the audience.
Our goal is to create a space for intergenerational exchange and thoughtful, respectful debate, while offering a behind-the-scenes look at how researchers and students are navigating the opportunities and challenges brought by AI.

Our speakers
Prof. Dieter Süss
(C) Philip Heinrich | Physics of Functional Materials
Prof. Dieter Süss is Professor of Computational Physics at the University of Vienna. He leads the Physics of Functional Materials group, with research focused on magnetism, spintronics, magnetic sensors, and advanced materials. His work has contributed to innovations in magnetic data storage, sensor technology, and 3D-printed permanent magnets.
Dr. Andrey Voronov

Dr. Andrey Voronov is a physicist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vienna.
His research focuses on nanomagnetism, magnonics, spin-wave dynamics, and functional magnetic materials. His works is contributing to advanced research on spin-based information technologies.
Hannah Arnfelser, BSc

Hannah Arnfelser, BSc, is a Master’s student at the Faculty of Physics, working with the Nanomagnetism and Magnonics research group. Besides her research in next-generation information processing and computing technologies, she develops apps for science communication.
