Unveiling of the Moritz Schlick and Vienna Circle Commemorative Plaque

The commemorative plaque honors the philosopher Moritz Schlick and the Vienna Circle, an influential discussion group that met on the premises of what is now the Faculty of Physics building.

The unveiling ceremony took place on June 22, 2026. Speakers at the event included the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Phys. Dr. Stefan Fredenhagen, the Director of the Vienna Circle Institute, Univ.-Prof. Mag. Mag. Dr. Georg Schiemer and the Director of the Vienna Circle Society, Univ.-Prof. (ret.) Dr. Friedrich Stadler.

Moritz Schlick (1882–1936) led the Vienna Circle. In 1936, he was assassinated. The Vienna Circle was dissolved during the Nazi era due to the persecution, expulsion, and emigration of its members. Nevertheless, many of the philosophical debates held at that time remain highly relevant today.
