Since the 2008/09 winter semester, lecture halls at the Faculty have been named after prominent figures in Viennese physics. Last year, the school course laboratory was named after Franziska Seidl. Now, with the completion of the new wing and its seminar room, another opportunity has arisen. The choice fell on Austria’s first female full professor.
Consequently, three spaces at the faculty are now named after female physicists: the Lise Meitner Lecture Hall, the Franziska Seidl Lab, and the Berta Karlik Seminar Room.
The seminar room was officially inaugurated in the presence of Univ. Prof. Nikolaus Hautsch, Vice-Rector of the University of Vienna and Univ. Prof. Stefan Fredenhagen, Dean of the Faculty of Physics. Brigitte Bischof, Diversity Coordinator of the Faculty, spoke about Karlik's biography, and Ass.-Prof. Karin Hain, leader of the research group Isotope Physics, discussed the Viennese physicist's scientific work.
