Eloisa Bentivegna (Catania): Models of the relativistic Universe for the XXI century

Abstract:

Strong gravitational fields exhibit a rich phenomenology that can help us probe how space, time and matter behave under extreme conditions. Over the next few decades, a number of observational missions will acquire high-resolution data of these systems, imaging such properties as the large-scale distribution of structure in the Universe and the high-curvature regions surrounding compact objects.  

In this talk, I will discuss how piecing large gravitational datasets together into a cohesive picture poses unique challenges, which can only be tackled by a synergy between Mathematical and Numerical Relativity. I will discuss how computational techniques can enhance the study of gravitational systems and the interpretation of upcoming datasets, outlining my contributions to the field and the future developments I plan to undertake.
